You are here: Home>Top Tips for Website Design, e-Commerce and Conversion Optimisation : Lead Generation: Top 5 Questions : 2: How Many Pages Should My Website Be?
This is one of the most common questions we get from customers and the answer is always, as big or small as it needs to be. Years ago web developers were selling websites by the number of pages in a package; customers had to choose whether they wanted a 5, 10, or 20 page website. Some companies still sell websites this way but in our opinion this is a nonsense way to build lead generating websites.
The whole purpose of a lead generation website is to generate leads and this only happens if site visitors find the information that answers their questions. The fact is whether you are selling accounting, legal, property or business consulting services, different customers have different concerns that must be addressed before they can move forward and make an enquiry.
How can a web design company determine the size of a website before they understand the most important component of a website, the customers? Surely the first stage of website architecture is about understanding the information that each customer type will require, in order to feel comfortable that the company whose site they are on is worth contacting.
Once you understand the customers, and figure out the different questions they could be asking, you can then map out the path each customer needs to take. You can then determine the size of the initial website by creating a site plan.
If you are a business owner or marketing manager, and are serious about generating leads from your website, don’t buy your website by the pages. This method is only good for information sites not lead generation sites.
